Persian Gulf War-1991
Saddam Hussein (Iraq leader) ordered the invasion on Kuwait in early August 1990. Disturbed by the sudden actions, former Arab powers (Saudi Arabia & Egypt) called on the U.S. and other Western Nations to interact. Saddam wanted the oil Kuwait had and refused to remove his Iraqi troops. U.N Security Council demanded him to remove them by mid- January 19,1991. The war begin with a huge U.S- led air offensive known as Operation Desert Storm. After 42 days of attacks by the UN and their allied forces in the air and on ground- President George H.W Bush declared a cease fire on February 28. By that time Iraqi forces had lost already. This even happen all because of oil. Hussein wanted Kuwait's oil so he ordered the invasion on them in early 1990 of August. As a result Kuwait and Iraq suffered enormous damage. Saddam Hussein still remained in power. In the immediate aftermath of the war, Hussein started attacking the Kurd's. The U.S tried to save them but that didn't work because Iraq is making the situation difficult. On February 27,1991, five months after Iraqi invaded Kuwait, the U.S.and its allies forced Saddam Hussein to withdraw his troops.
Operation Iraqi Freedom
On this day March 19,2003, President George W. Bush came to the nation through the television and announced that Operation Iraqi Freedom had began. The mission was to get rid of Iraq's dictator Saddam Hussein and stop his ability to develop weapons of mass destruction. United States intelligence agencies believe Iraq has a connection to the terrorist group al-Qaeda who were responsible for the 9/11 attack. Between 2002 and early 2003 United Nations weapons inspectors tried to see if Hussein had violated U.N resolutions against creating biological and chemical weapons. In the end Bush announced "mission acomplished" but Iraq continued to experience on going attacks. Operation was created to make a stable Iraq that no longer supports terrorism or threatens it's neighbors.
